A proven model for sustainable change

The ABEL model brings decades of real-world change leadership from SGA Praxis LLC into a practical framework for leaders, consultants, and organizations.

Unlike single-methodology frameworks, ABEL acts as an integration layer — helping you know when to use PMI, Agile, Prosci, Lean, OKRs, or Kotter based on where you are in the cycle. ABEL doesn't replace these methodologies. It tells you which one to reach for.

A

Assess & Align

Establish shared truth before any work begins

Before you plan anything, you need to honestly understand where you are. Most change efforts fail not because of poor planning — but because teams started with wrong assumptions. Phase A forces you to slow down, look clearly at the current reality, and align everyone on what is actually true.

Purpose

Understand the current state, identify constraints, surface stakeholder needs, and build shared alignment around what success actually looks like.

Key Questions

  • ?What is our current operating reality?
  • ?What constraints are we working within?
  • ?Who are the stakeholders and what do they need?
  • ?Are we genuinely aligned on what success looks like?
  • ?What capacity and capability do we have?
  • ?What is the honest assessment of our situation?

Typical Outputs

  • Shared understanding of current state
  • Identified constraints and limitations
  • Stakeholder impact and influence map
  • Alignment on priorities and focus areas
  • Honest baseline for measuring future progress
  • Risk and readiness assessment

Blueprint & Build

Design the path that people can actually follow

With a clear picture of reality, you now design the way forward. This is where strategy becomes structure — where you define what you're trying to accomplish, how you'll measure it, who owns what, and how decisions will be made. Blueprint is about creating a path that is both ambitious and followable.

Purpose

Create the governance structures, measurable outcomes, roadmap, and ownership models that turn strategy into a workable plan.

Key Questions

  • ?What are the clear objectives and key results?
  • ?What does the roadmap look like — and is it realistic?
  • ?Who owns each piece of work?
  • ?How will we make decisions and stay coordinated?
  • ?What methodologies fit this type of work?
  • ?What does 'done' look like for each phase?

Typical Outputs

  • Strategic objectives with measurable key results
  • Defined ownership and accountability (RACI)
  • Prioritized initiative roadmap
  • Governance and decision rhythm
  • Risk and dependency log (RAID)
  • Methodology selection and delivery approach
E

Execute & Enable

Deliver real work and help people adopt what is built

Plans don't change organizations — execution does. But execution without enablement is just delivery of things people won't use. Phase E is about doing both: delivering tangible work in a consistent rhythm, while actively removing barriers and helping people adopt what's being built.

Purpose

Deliver the work, remove blockers, communicate clearly, train people, and build the adoption that makes the change real.

Key Questions

  • ?What gets done this week?
  • ?What barriers need to be removed?
  • ?Are people being equipped to use what's being built?
  • ?Who needs support right now?
  • ?Is communication reaching the right people with the right message?
  • ?Where is adoption breaking down?

Typical Outputs

  • Tangible deliverables produced consistently
  • Blockers identified and resolved
  • Communications plan executed
  • Training and enablement plan delivered
  • Adoption metrics tracked
  • Stakeholders regularly updated

Learn, Leverage & Lead

Capture outcomes, build capacity, and scale what works

Execution without learning is just activity. Phase L closes the loop — you step back, measure what actually happened, capture what you learned, decide what to scale, and build organizational capacity to do this better next time. This is how change becomes sticky.

Purpose

Measure outcomes, run retrospectives, build internal capability, decide what to sustain or scale, and feed insights back into the next Assess cycle.

Key Questions

  • ?Did we achieve the outcomes we intended?
  • ?What did we learn from this work?
  • ?What capacity did we build in the organization?
  • ?What should we scale, sustain, or stop?
  • ?How do we prevent regression?
  • ?What feeds into the next Assess cycle?

Typical Outputs

  • Documented outcomes vs. original objectives
  • Retrospective learnings and recommendations
  • Sustainment plan for adopted behaviors
  • Scaling decisions for what worked
  • Organizational capability growth
  • Insights for the next ABEL cycle
The cycle continues — Learn feeds back into Assess. Each pass makes the organization stronger.
